SOMERVILLE, New Jersey — Authorities are investigating after a 46-year-old woman was found dead inside a Somerville apartment Thursday evening with what officials described as multiple apparent stab wounds.
Police responded to a welfare check at approximately 7:26 p.m. on August 6 at the Brookside Gardens apartment complex after concerns were raised about the woman’s well-being. Upon arrival, officers discovered the victim deceased inside the residence.
According to Somerset County Prosecutor John McDonald, the woman suffered multiple lacerations to her chest, neck, and thigh. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities have not yet released the woman’s identity. Officials said her name is being withheld pending positive identification and notification of her family members.
The investigation has brought multiple law enforcement agencies together as detectives work to determine the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death. Members of the Somerville Police Department, the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, the Crime Scene Investigations Unit, and medical investigators from the New Jersey Northern Regional Medical Examiner’s Office responded to the scene.
The apartment complex, located between Mountain Avenue and Mercer Street near Immaculata High School, became the focus of the investigation as authorities collected evidence and worked to understand what occurred inside the residence.
